Tourism based on environmental conservation would be the newest attraction in sustainable tourism, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

"Our tourism awakening and economic prowess will be based on a sustainable green economy," Uno stated while officiating the Minang Rua Beach and Kelawi Village as one of the Tourism Village Awards awardees in South Lampung District, Lampung, on Saturday.

Tourism based on environmental conservation and sustainability in the village will be a plus point that attracts tourists to visit, he remarked.

The minister then suggested the tourism village authority to regulate the entry of vehicles and provide electric vehicles in their region to conserve nature in Kelawi Village and Minang Rua Beach.

"The steep road should be upgraded to make it non-slippery but do not expand it, as the width is just right. By then, buses will be parked outside, and only electric vehicles will be allowed in, so the conservation aspect can be maintained," Uno explained.

He also advised the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) to provide a rest area to accommodate larger tourist vehicles outside the beach area.

"A rest area can be developed outside to accommodate buses and become the pick-up point for electric vehicles. If buses come in, conservation efforts can be hampered, let alone with the presence of turtles here," the minister stated.

Uno also highlighted the need for regional authorities to ascertain their capability to support the development and realization of conservation-based tourism in their respective regions.

"The regional authority earlier committed to providing a homestay that will be managed by Pokdarwis and based on environmental conservation and sustainability, they will have until next year to deliver it," he remarked.
